Confirmation Students Vote For Justice

Hundreds of Confirmation Students visited the Lutheran Office for Public Policy Display (LOPPW) at the La Crosse Area Synod's annual ConFest and lifted their voice on behalf of our neighbors in need.
The students learned about homeless kids in Wisconsin, children who face hunger each day, the need for a good education, and the challenges facing our planet. Students voted for the issues they cared about the most and spoke of why these issues were important to them.
Each student (and adult) got to vote for the two top issues they wanted LOPPW to advocate for at the State Capitol in Madison. The students voted that ending hunger in Wisconsin be the top legislative priority for LOPPW.
Of the 870 votes cast, 37% voted to end hunger; 33% voted to provide housing to those who are homeless; 15% voted to curb global warming; and 13% voted to guarantee that all students in Wisconsin receive a good education.
The Lutheran Office for Public Policy in Wisconsin hosted displays at the ConFest gatherings in Viroqua and Galesville. LOPPW is a ministry of advocacy with the La Crosse Area Synod, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and the World Hunger Program.
