About Us

...And what does the Lord require of you
But to do justice,
And to love kindness,
And to walk humbly with your God?”
(Micah 6:8)

The Lutheran Office for Public Policy in Wisconsin interprets the public policy positions and the advocacy priorities of the ELCA synods in Wisconsin to the state legislature and state agencies. This direct advocacy is carried out in context of scripture, the nine ELCA social statements, and under the guidance of our policy council. The policy council members are appointed by their synods and represent the Bishops and congregations to determine the specific issues to be addressed and provide oversight for the operation of the office.

How LOPPW works for advocacy

We work with bishops, pastors and congregations to develop and support the ministry of advocacy through an advocacy network. We inform that network on issues affecting the well being of the people we serve in our communities.

We join hands with our advocacy partners within the ELCA to influence public policy through cooperation with the ELCA Washington, DC Office, ELCA State Public Policy Offices across the country, the Lutheran Office for World Community at the United Nations, and the Corporate Social Responsibility program.

We work collegially with other Lutheran advocacy organizations and ecumenical groups across Wisconsin.
