Key Issues

More than 694,000 people in Wisconsin face hunger and food insecurity. This crisis touches every corner of our state, from urban to rural communities.

The Bible calls us to recognize poverty as a shared concern and to respond with compassion and justice. Caring for those in need is central to living out our faith.

Caring for the environment is a profoundly spiritual calling. We are entrusted with the responsibility to act as faithful stewards of the earth.

We are called toward welcome, justice, and love of neighbor. Immigration, refugee, and asylum policies express who we are as a nation and affect the lives of millions.

We believe God calls people of faith to seek the common good through civic participation. Through nonpartisan engagement, we support civic engagement, elections, and voting.

Through a process of careful discernment grounded in Lutheran theology, ELCA social statements, research, and discussion, we identify priority issues each year and engage in action.

We see the despoiling of the environment as nothing less than the degradation of God’s gracious gift of creation. – ELCA Social Statement Caring for Creation: Vision, Hope, and Justice
